Plates and barrels added to largest Safedrive® kits

We’ve answered customer requests so that now, even for your largest doors, you can get everything you need from Guthrie Douglas in one ready-to-go kit. Head plates and barrel manufacturing options have been added to our kits for the Safedrive® 85, 100, 140 and 180 drive units.

That means you get the extra reassurance that our technical team have specified and calculated all the load requirements to engineer the plates and other elements to your needs.

That reassurance is one of the reasons more customers see us as the supplier of choice for large door drives and controls.

As the case study below shows: customers trust us, and our engineering knowledge, to give peace of mind on safety and reliability on complete large door solutions.

Find out more about the benefits of the Safedrive® range

Height is no barrier to fast and easy operation

Doors taller than 9m are being opened in under 30 seconds by our Safedrive® Fi 140/20 (1,400Nm, 20rpm). The insulated doors, supplied by our customer for a building in Scotland, are required to open and close as quickly as possible to retain heat and for security purposes. The use of the Safedrive® Fi range now allows large doors to be opened as quickly and easily as smaller doors.

New SiteGuthrie Douglas is now supplying the second phase of the project after the success of the first. Five Safedrive® Fi units, ranging from 400Nm to 750Nm, are being followed by eight more, ranging from 450Nm to 1400Nm.

This second order includes our new mounting plates for large drive units, giving the customer everything ready specified and prepared to install.

Our solution ensures the efficient operation of the doors and the safety of the people using them. We specified the Safedrive® Fi for its combination of high operating speeds and simple installation and commissioning. With the built-on frequency inverter there’s no lengthy wiring time. The Safedrive® Fi can be installed and commissioned in the same way as the rest of the Guthrie Douglas range – reducing both site times and costs for our customers.

Many new innovations on the way in 2012

We’re excited about the innovation we were able to bring you this year, and this will continue in 2012. In 2011 we made it easier for you to buy complete solutions and source competitive options for your customers. Such as with the addition of our Condor and LZR®-i100 sensors – creating the complete intelligent door package to help your customers achieve cost and energy savings.

We also became a supplier of choice on high-profile, must-not-fail and complex projects. By working in partnership with customers, we used our technical expertise to design the optimum solutions and helped many of you win the business. Such as the creation of bespoke control systems for a busy UK airport and a complex multi-application project for a food processing site.

On the latter project we were able to combine Guthrie Douglas and Garog products for the first time. Acquiring Garog made it easier for you to buy competitively priced tubular motors and get access to technical support from Garog expert Chris John. Garog also broadened our range, attracting new customers from the domestic garage door market among others.

In February 2012 we’ll be in Stuttgart for R&T – the leading world trade fair for roller shutter and door/gate systems. We’ll be presenting the many new products coming your way in 2012, including a brand new range of control panels. We hope to see you there.

What you get as standard from a Safedrive® motor:
  • The widest range of torques and speeds of any door drive on the market. Special drives available including high speed, Fi, increased protection IP65i and explosion proof drives
  • Built-in safety brake means barrels can be manufactured without springs making them quicker to produce and easier and simpler to install
  • Digital limits that can be set from the floor level control panel with no need for access equipment
  • Plug and play system. Can be installed by a mechanical fitter – electrician often not required
  • Easy to set-up control panels. Controls for all door types with all models following the same design so installers only need to be trained once ?
    • Easy-read fault codes. Arrive knowing what the fault is and ready to fix it, enhancing the service level provided to your customer ?
    • Inbuilt maintenance counter allows you to set a regular service schedule and generate revenue. Customised name plate reminds your customers who to call if a service is due?

Plus, our latest innovations:

  • IP65 protection as standard on all drive units (excluding Safedrive® Fi) at no extra cost, thanks to improvements in the construction and use of materials
  • Handchain operator that’s quieter, smoother and more resistant to wear due to a new synthetic chain guide. Our handchain operators are already built for reliability, longevity and suitability for the UK market.
